EFT Tapping

When it comes to effectively and permanently processing and interrupting seemingly stuck patterns of emotions, trauma, behaviors, and beliefs, the Emotional Freedom Technique, often referred to as EFT, or tapping, has been proven to be one of the most groundbreaking methods available.

We like to think of EFT as an extended mindfulness technique that does not just allow you to have an awareness of where and how emotions get stuck and repeated in your body. It will enable you to connect those emotions and brainwaves to actually facilitate healing and liberation, whether the suffering is of an emotional or physical nature.

The common denominator of any ailment is stress. To expose yourself to any stressful or traumatic cause in a safe environment while you actively soothe your nervous system by tapping on these acupoints alleviates the stress reaction in your body and allows the brain to make new connections and recognize previous triggers no longer as threats.

EFT is based on cognitive therapy and acupressure, working with the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments. This technique of tapping points on the body with your fingers has been in use for over 5,000 years, harnessing the power of acupuncture without the invasiveness of needles.

The claim of “healing” may sound bold, but at this point, there is plenty of scientific research and experience to back it up. EFT has helped millions to radically change the trajectory of people’s lives towards liberation and happiness in a sustainable way.

Here is the simple step-by-step instruction for the basic recipe

  1. Take a couple of deep breaths and feel into your body. Where in your body do you feel an emotional issue most intensely? Want to take it further: Can you describe the sensation - is there color, texture, etc.? It is okay if you cannot feel it in your body!
  2. Determine the stress level in your body on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most intense.
  3. Look at the chart and start by gently tapping with two fingers on the point on the side of your hand. Either hand is fine. While you do so, you repeat the setup statement 3 times, preferably out loud: “Even though I have/ I feel ____ (name the problem), I accept myself and how I feel.”
  4. Starting the tapping sequence: name the problem repeatedly while you tap about 7 times through each of the points. Pick a phrase that allows you to feel the issue in your body intensely. This is important: in EFT, we don’t shy away from the pain - this is what allows it to transform! You can tap through the sequence a couple of times.
  5. Pause, take a deep breath, feel into your body again, and see if the intensity has changed or the sensation has shifted in your body.
  6. Repeat from step 1 as often as you wish, desirably, until the level of distress is close to 0.
  7. Bonus step: write down any insights or cognitive shifts.

Tapping the sequence by yourself on any issue that shows up daily is incredibly empowering!
